Manchester United vs Liverpool
Well not literally of course! But neither Jose Mourinho nor Jurgen Klopp will be happy with a point when English football’s biggest rivalry resumes on Sunday.
Liverpool are just five points behind leaders Chelsea and three points at Old Trafford are a must to keep with the pace. A home win would not only severely damage ‘Pool’s title challenge, but it would also bring the Red Devils to within two points of their fierce rivals and back in the hunt themselves.
United’s defence held firm to frustrate Liverpool in a 0-0 draw at Anfield in the return fixture, but since then the Old Trafford faithful have seen something of a transformation. Now eleven games unbeaten, the last six all wins, they are on a great roll.
As we see with Chelsea, the absence of Champions League football makes the Premier League easier, and Manchester United are determined to reclaim their place in the elite.
We know Jose will never change the way he plays, but this game could be a cracker with two teams desperate for points!
Liverpool are without Sadio Mane, away with Senegal at the African Nations Cup, but Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana are a constant threat, and Phillipe Coutinho is on his way back from injury; if he returns on Sunday that could make the difference.
United fans will hope Zlatan Ibrahimovic has recovered from illness; the super Swede has been in phenomenal scoring form, hitting the target 12 times since the beginning of November.
So let’s get it on.
Jose had a right old moan at his players for celebrating a goal on Tuesday. But if they score against Liverpool, I bet he’ll be more understanding.
