1st ODI: India vs New Zealand
There are few better sights in sport than the supremely gifted Indian batsmen at their explosive best, and we have another chance to enjoy the spectacle on Sunday.
It’s New Zealand’s task to subdue the Indians on their home turf and, while Kane Williamson leads a talented outfit, they are at betting odds of 3.22 to get a win. India are at 1.33, but fans can also look at the number of sixes with Asian Handicap betting. At 1.85 India are the favourites to hit the most while the tourists are at 2.20.
Skipper Virat Kohli will lead the charge at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, still heading the ICC one-day batting rankings. He is ably backed up by Rohit Sharma in 5th and the destructive batting of MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan.
Williamson, currently seventh in the rankings, is pivotal to any hopes of success for the Kiwis, while the most sixes could well come from the big-hitting Martin Guptill, whose fast scoring has taken him to tenth. New Zealand won’t be unhappy to see the India line-up without the prodigious spinning talent of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, both left out and playing the Ranji Trophy for their states.
Young pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah carries a threat with a wicked yorker to test batsmen early in their innings and at the death. And for New Zealand, the task of keeping control of the Indian run-rate falls to the brilliant strike bowler Trent Boult and his partner Tim Southee.
If they can do that, then we have a good game on our hands; if they can’t then pull up a chair and enjoy!
