Arsenal's Champions League hopes and betting odds crumbles as Bayern storm to 1st leg victory

So Betting Odds think the Champions played tonight!

Well, we’ll have to wait and see. But we witnessed a couple of pulsating football games this evening and saw enough skill and endeavour from the big guns to think we may have seen the 2017 European champions.

After Barcelona trashed many football betting tips last night by imploding in Paris to a rampant PSG, tonight we saw the pre-tournament second and third favourites; Bayern and Real Madrid, deliver explosive performances to take a stranglehold on their ties.

Bayern Munich 5-1 Arsenal

The Gunners knew that Arjen Robben was a likely goal provider but he turned goal scorer as early as the 11th minute when he curled a beauty into the top corner. The Arsenal defence was flat-footed and Robert Lewandowski threatened to make matters worse. But Arsenal weathered the storm and Alexis Sanchez brilliantly followed up his own missed penalty to level matters.

But weathering the storm isn’t always enough because the storm kept coming and in a devastating ten minutes, Robert Lewandowski and then Thiago with a quick-fire brace took the tie away from Arsenal. Thomas Muller just made it worse for the Gunners on 88 minutes.

Real Madrid 3-1 Napoli

Napoli gave Los Blancos an early reminder that they are a force in Europe when Lorenzo Insigne took a neat ball from Marek Hamsik and lashed a beautiful goal in from 30 yards. But Real’s response was quick and on 18 minutes Karim Benzema headed home his fourth Champions league goal in a row.

And then in a dynamic ten minutes at the start of the second half Toni Kroos side footed a beauty and then Casemiro hit a blistering volley from distance to make it 3-1.

This tie isn’t over but it’s a clear advantage to Real Madrid.
